| Perry - A tragic tale with a happy ending | |
|
'Perry' was a very sorry sight indeed
when we first met him in July 1995. He was
brought to us by the RSPCA who believed him (with good reason) to be almost a lost cause.
Perry had severe lead poisoning resulting in a total lack of feeling or movement in both
legs. In the wild he would have died within hours. We could see immediately that although helpless, Perry was a fighter and had a strong will to survive. He may have been a borderline case, but we had to do all we could to try and help him in his battle to live. Perry was immediately taken to our hospital unit for urgent treatment to reduce the level of poisoning. He was nursed around the clock to see how the treatment was working. At this stage it is critical. Administering treatment to injured birds requires far more precision than say, with human patients. ![]()
